a colablab+lab update

With proposals for a show still in the works and service to the sponge underway, the collaborators are working through a series of individually decided upon paths for final critiques, presentations and happenings. Last class amidst girl-talk, intrauterine device discussion and the void left by Riley’s absence we knit ourselves just a little bit closer to a decisive theme for the night of December the 9th. Will we find ourselves stuck in seedy seventies Deep Throat kitsch, art as experience, mediated handmade nostalgia…or somewhere decisively different or found completely in-between?

Raena, here’s an article on Vija Celmins with links to her work and a full interview:

Spreading the love of Lotus

It’s hard to come up with words that can evoke this workshop’s true sponginess and the loveliness of this kind of learning, sharing and human symbiosis, so I think I’ll just let the pictures show it.

hooshing the hive + lotus learning

The Colablablab community has been hard at work on the HQ these past few classes, from felting curtains for the bee yard basement, designing and documenting our own compartment manual, to re-landscaping the aquarium terrain. There have even been some new additions to the spongey-space: a hot pink bell-ringing string courtesy of Raena’s rigging, Riley’s sponge signage, my own amatuer quilt/dye jars and a now  featured meditative moment lead by Trina at the start of every class. The results from our latest Dan Carr exam are still pending, and SPONGE DAY PRESENTATIONS are on the way so as our buzzing work on the hive is comes to a quick pause, for progress critiques and sponge presentations, we are basking in our fully “hooshed” space and anxiously awaiting tonights Colablablab welcoming of  Kelly Billing(Mom) and Paula Biles, who will be giving a truly spongey presentation on the lotus: history, horticulture, and spiritual significance!
